BATTLE

The historic  town of Battle is a  30 min drive from AEFES camp site , named after the famous Battle of Hastings which was fought between Harold the Saxon King and William the Conqueror in 1066. The battle was so significant it changed the course of English history. Take a visit to the  Battle museum of local history and  the medieval ruins and battle site at Battle Abbey .

Maybe AEFES’ location is one of the reasons sword fighting is so popular at the festival.

There are plenty of places to eat in Battle but one of our favourites (especially if you like milkshakes) for drinks and snacks is Skarlett’s Cafe. It’s small with limited indoor seating but has an extensive vegan menu. Including the milkshakes, hot chocolate, cakes, etc.
